The Sphere is a charming meditation on grief and mystery and you can play this free point and click adventure right now

With shades of the Twilight Zone and a soundtrack that seems heavily inspired by Back to the Future, The Sphere is a charming point-and-click adventure that casts you as a grieving father, left alone in a house that was once full of life. And, best of all, it’s absolutely free.
Developer Michael Lückgen (whose main forte is composing) describes it as “..a short, cinematic point & click adventure inspired by the golden age of the genre,” and they’re not wrong. Your protagonist has lost their son which, in turn, has led to the breakdown of their marriage. Right now, their day consists of drinking, pottering around the house and.. that’s it, really.
But then a mysterious sphere drops out of the skies and, over the course of half-an-hour or so, it’s up to you to uncover its mysteries. Don’t expect a conclusive ending but it’s still a delight to play. And, despite the loss at the core of its story, it’s strangely uplifting.
Its puzzles aren’t too taxing, but we’re happy to report that you can highlight every hotspot on screen, and the music helps elevate even the most minor discovery. If you’re craving a bite-sized mystery, you can download The Sphere here, and find Michael Lückgen’s portfolio here.
