Everyone’s favourite beat ’em up returns next year with a brand new numbered instalment, and it’s certainly shaping up to not disappoint.
Our brief hands-on had us fighting with fan favourites such as Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li, as well as the lesser known Birdie and new character Necalli. As you would hope, the fighting is fast and furious, with responsive controls and slick animation making it a joy to play. Though we didn’t get to play it in depth, on the surface it feels very much like the Street Fighter you’re used to. It may be a newly numbered title, but not much seems to have changed on a basic level for better or worse.
What we weren’t prepared for however, was for just how good it looks. Honestly, screenshots do not do this game justice. Everything in this game looks gorgeous: from the extremely detailed character models to the exquisitely detailed environments you fight in, every bout was a visual treat to savour.
Due for release early next year, what we have played of Street Fighter 5 is truly promising. Already it seems like a great step up from Street Fighter 4, and with months of development time to go, things can only get better.
Street Fighter 5 is due to be released in 2016 on PC and PlayStation 4. Preorder your copy now!
