For the first time since 1989, players have the chance to visit Camp Crystal Lake, site of the Friday the 13th slaughters. Do you dare step on the grounds where Jason Voorhees bled his victims dry? I mean, it couldn’t happen again… could it?
Alongside Sean S. Cunningham, producer and director of the Friday the 13th films, and Kane Hodder who actually was Jason Voorhees in four of the films, Gun Media have resurrected Friday the 13th in game format – for the first time in 26 years! This is a game many horror fans have anticipated for too long.
Friday the 13th: The Game will be a third-person, asymmetrical multiplayer title, pitting up to seven happy campers against machete-wielding Jason Voorhees. The game originally started out life as independent title Slasher Vol.1: Summer Camp, with a plot that sounded a bit too familiar. Ultimately, Cunningham caught wind of the project and personally reached out to the developers to allow them the rights to the franchise. The full development story is available on the game’s Kickstarter page (which has already successfully reached its funding goal).
The game will allow players to step in the shoes of either a camper or Jason himself; the several delightfully stereotypical camp counsellors, including “The Jock” and “The Girl Next Door”, will most likely be trembling with fear as whoever takes the role of Jason stalks them throughout the semi-open world of Camp Crystal Lake.
With a personal progression system, allowing access to multiple Jason appearances chosen by fans of the series as well as additional camp counsellors with unique stats and traits, and a “Movie Trailer” system that turns the previous round into a typical 1980’s horror trailer, Friday the 13th: The Game looks set to be an excellent title that fans of the classic slasher film will undoubtedly appreciate! So much effort and love is going into making this game an authentic slasher experience.
Friday the 13th: The Game is set to be released in Autumn 2016.
