Hinted at briefly back in 2013, Great Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Duo is now heading to 3DS in Japan.
I was initally curious as to how useful Pikachu would make himself, as questioning people with “Pika, pika” wouldn’t elicit much of a response. Although having witnessed the debut trailer it does look like he’ll be able to speak like the rest of us and drink coffee too. I have to admit that I don’t know how I feel about a “humanised” Pikachu, I find it a little odd. I mean, it’s also magnified by his voice which I really didn’t expect coming from such a cute creature. Despite my feelings towards detective Pikachu, I hope it ends up being a whole lot of fun as it’s nice to see something a little different from Nintendo.
The game will be released on the Nintendo eShop on February 3rd in Japan. It’s priced at 1,500 yen, that’s $12.65 or £8.86, but will be available for the special price of 1,200 yen, $10.12 or £7.10, until February 29th.
Currently there’s no mention of release outside of Japan, but there’s a strong possibility we’ll be seeing Great Detective Pikachu in the West later this year.
