Terraria: Otherworld New Trailer and Update on Progress

Re-Logic have suddenly resurfaced and given us an update on Terraria: Otherworld’s progress.
The initial idea behind Terraria: Otherworld’s development was to give the original Terraria a sense of true purpose. So whilst it’s stamping its feet and claiming it’s not a Terraria 2, I can’t really get the notion of a sequel out of my mind. To me, it’s most certainly a sequel or spiritual successor that wants to build upon what made Terraria great, but also experiment with the formula a little.
Re-logic are taking inspiration from the RPG and Tower Defense genres, where you’ll have to defend certain locations on the map in order to halt the spread of whatever affliction the land has contracted.
Watch this trailer from GDC 2015 back in March where you’ll get a much better picture of the direction Terraria: Otherworld is heading in:
They’ve also issued an apology for the delay, as the game was due for release in 2015 but it became clear that it wasn’t happening. Great progress has been made however, and delays definitely aren’t a bad sign. In many cases it’s good that developers want to put more time and effort into a game to ensure that it releases as the product they envisioned from the start, rather than handing eager consumers a half-finished mess.
Plans are also in the works for a standalone Terraria: Otherworld community in the near future.
For the meantime check out this teaser video showing off the very convenient new feature – swing grappling!
