The Elder Scrolls’ own collectible card game The Elder Scrolls: Legends is now in open beta and available to all. For the past few months the game has been in closed alpha and beta and, until last week, under an NDA. You can sign up now to the open beta on PC – just be wary it’s only available through Bethesda’s launcher.
The Elder Scrolls: Legends is being developed by Dire Wolf Digital and published by Bethesda. Dire Wolf have a history developing many card games including Eternal and the recently announced Clank! The open beta itself is pretty much a full version of the game – excluding some extra modes and micro-transactions. The full campaign is playable as well as online versus mode and an arena mode.
I’ve had access since the early alpha and impressions are good. Disregarding the inevitable comparisons to Hearthstone, The Elder Scrolls: Legends does enough well to stand on its own two feet. There is an absolute plethora of cards available, all with beautiful art work, and some unique systems here and there. My only gripe is the rather hilarious fact the narrator is voiced by that same Elder Scrolls voice actor that does… well all the Elder Scrolls voices. It’s becoming too noticeable now, Bethesda.
