PS4’s 4.00 update adds folders, quick menus and more

Sony have never been perfect with giving users what they want in terms of software. Users have cried out for small things (that were present on the PS3) like folders and slightly more complicated ones like username changing. Alas, you still cannot change your Playstation name but finally you can now sort games and apps into folders – and a few other useful things.

As part of the upcoming “Shingen” 4.00 update which rolls out tomorrow for those part of the public beta program, Sony are overhauling their system software. With revised notifications, new system icons as well as a new and improved quick menu which no longer covers up the whole screen – think the 360’s menu – Sony promise a more “refined and easy to use UI.”

This smaller and more accessible menu also translates over to the share menu to make sharing your videos and screenshots of weird No Man’s Sky creatures much easier. You can also now upload 140 second-long videos to Twitter instead of the old 10 second limit.

You can now create folders to organise your games and apps, and make your home screen less cluttered. You can sort their content by install date, alphabetical etc. There are also some added improvements to the trophy section. Finally you can view all your trophies while offline as well as an option to see the content and requirements of hidden trophies.

Sony also promise that when the 4.00 update releases for the rest of us in a few weeks it will include even more features not available in the beta. Stay tuned and we will update you on anything new and its release day.
