Earth’s Dawn is a 2D hack and slash game with anime visuals

2D action games are common and so too are 2D action games with unique looking visual styles. That doesn’t however mean that more aren’t welcome and Earth’s Dawn is here to prove it. Developed by Japanese studio Oneoreight their company motto is: “To make interesting games that we believe in.”

As lead director Kuroki states; it’s a broad statement but one that means the studio purely wants to develop games that are fun. The studio’s latest title, Earth’s Dawn, which released last year over in Japan, is their first title for the PS4 but is also coming to Xbox One and PC.

Kuroki says that while the unique 2D art style is attention grabbing, the team wanted to make sure that world also “looked dark and threatning” as is reflected in the enviromental and enemy design. The real catch however is the gameplay and customisation. Oneoreight have made the combat very fast-paced and players have to use a combination of their swords and guns as well as many advanced attacks to chain together combo’s.

“It’s fun starting with a few slash attacks, knocking the enemy up in the air, jumping into the air with more melee attacks, juggling them in the air with gunshots, and then maybe throw them in-midair to finish a combo.”

Earth’s Dawn launches digitally on November 1 but a special retail edition is available for PS4.
