Dead Rising 4’s campaign will not have co-op play

Dead Rising is famous for a lot of things; some good, some bad. Absurd weapons, novelty heads and odd dress sense is all part and parcel of the Dead Rising experience. So too is a fully cooperative campaign, time limits and a perpetual amount of escort missions – but Dead Rising 4 wants to do away with those.
In a new reveal trailer from IGN, it was revealed that the campaign of the game will not have any form of co-op in the single-player. Instead, the team at Capcom Vancouver have opted for an entirely new and seperate mode, purely for co-op play with up to four players. It takes place over the course of two in-game days where players have to complete various objectives and rack up skill points – with all skills and abilities being on a seperate character than Frank in single-player.
The decision has been met with even more anger among an already disgruntled fan-base. Dead Rising 4 looks to be stepping further and further away from what made the series unique. The infamous timed-campaign limit is being done away with as is the series’ escort missions – now, to rescue a survivor, you just have to kill a preset number of surrounding zombies. The ever-weird but enjoyable psycopaths are also disappearing.
In response to the new co-op mode, Capcom Vancouver’s David McAnerin said: “We want to make sure we really focus on telling Frank’s story. We think he’s a really interesting character. It’s really exciting to bring him back.” The news comes not too long after it was announced the protagonist, Frank West, would be getting a change of voice-actor.
