Mass Effect: Andromeda Gets New Trailer, Changes to Combat and Game of Thrones’ Natalie Dormer

Well, it’s Mass Effect: Andromeda preview day, and we’ve got lots more info and a new trailer. Bioware are releasing a new trailer every single week running up to release focusing on different aspects of gameplay – today’s is ‘Characters’.

However, like last weeks trailer, todays still has a large focus on how combat works. The immediate difference most players will notice from previous Mass Effect titles is the lack of classes – or the classic power wheel. Instead, the team are hoping to make Andromeda much more mobile, quicker and on-the-fly.

Commands to teammates are handed out at will and you access up to 12 abilities through a new ‘favourites’ system. To curb your power however, only three abilities are available at any one time; switching requires going into a quick menu and waiting for a short cooldown. The trailer also gives a quick overview of your six main squadmates: Humans ‘Cora’ and ‘Liam’, the rebellious Asari ‘Peebee’, Krogan ‘Drack’ and ‘Jaal’, member of a new race.

Oh, and one last thing. Mass Effect usually doesn’t include too many celebrity appearances but each game gets one or two. We already knew about protagonist Ryder’s father being played by Clancy Brown but Game of Thrones and The Tudors actress Natalie Dormer will be turning up too – as an alien. She’ll star as ‘Lexi T’Perro’, the new doctor aboard your Tempest spaceship. There’s a new trailer with both her and the team discussing the character and role.
