If you missed it yesterday, a sequel to 2014’s Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor was leaked a little early thanks to US retailer Target. The official announcement was set to arrive next month but, thanks to the leak, Monolith have given up and released a cinematic announcement trailer today!
All in all, it looks pretty snazzy; of course, it is a cinematic trailer so don’t take too much to heart but any fans of The Lord of the Rings will be very happy to see the appearance of a Balrog and Ringwraiths. Although, we don’t have too long to wait for a gameplay trailer either as one is expected on March 8.
While waiting, we can take a few guesses at what Middle: earth: Shadow of War’s story will revolve around. It seems both Talion and wraith-friend Celebrimbor will return and, in the most utterly original idea possible, create a ring of power to rival that of Sauron’s. Of course, things don’t go as planned, Celebrimbor might be turning into a baddie and Talion, once again, set off to Mordor to set things straight .
Oh, and the Nemesis system is back. The acclaimed system from the original is said to be much expanded and “create unique personal stories with every enemy and follower”. Yes, the sequel will also include new friends that will add “stories of loyalty, betrayal and revenge.”
Now for the, inevitably, bad news. As you all certainly know by now, no video game announcement is complete without talking about pre-order DLC and special editions! Yes, Shadow of War is set to have a ‘Gold Edition’ at launch which includes bonus tribes, fortresses and other goodies on release. As well as also including two expansions which will, presumably, come later on down-the-line as part of the season pass. These will include new storylines, characters and areas.
Oh, isn’t the industry fun!
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is set to release on August 22 in North America and August 25 in Europe for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. A gameplay reveal is expected next week, March 8.
