Earlier this week, Square Enix and Platinum Games released a new trailer for NieR: Automata, showing off the four different weapon types in the game.
NieR’s protagonist 2B will have a multitude of ways to attack her foes, including long swords, small swords, combat bracers and spears – all of which lead to fast and varied combat. The ‘Arsenal of Elegant Destruction’ trailer below shows them off in all their glory.
As nice as all the different weapon types are though, it’s the enemies themselves that caught my eye more than anything. While we see a lot of the same smaller robots to fight against, there are some bloody awesome looking giant foes to fight against. Just look at that monster mech at 1 minute 20 in the trailer!
Combat looks to be swift and responsive, with 2B being quick and nimble to move around the battlefield. She’s able to jump and attack in the air, making larger foes fall with ease – or at least, that’s how the trailer makes it look. Those giant mechs though – they are going to take some serious defeating, and we can’t wait to get stuck in next month.
Kim's been into video games since playing Dizzy on her brother's Commodore 64 as a nipper. She'll give just about anything a go, but she's got a particular soft spot for indie adventures, roguelikes and puzzle games. If she's not gaming, she's probably got her nose in a book, and you can find her bookish musings on her blog at What The Book. She's also freelanced in several places, writes about Lego at That Brick Site, and is constantly thinking about new projects she'll undoubtedly quickly abandon.
