There's been no official confirmation yet, but thanks to some keen-eyed Neogaf user who spotted a job advert, it looks like The Evil Within 2 is in production – and may be out later this year.
Neogaf user Dusk Golem shared a Japanese job advert on Friday, which listed details for a QA report translator to work on a title called Psychobreak 2. Psychobreak, in case you weren't aware, is the Japanese name for The Evil Within, 2014's hit horror title developed Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda. So it seems very likely that we'll be seeing its sequel very soon.
The job advertisement was vague, but did have one piece of interesting information: the role is a fixed-term employment, running from April until 31st October 2017. Now, I don't know about you, but I feel like QA is most important towards the end of a game's development cycle. Does this mean then that we'll be seeing the release of The Evil Within 2 on or shortly after 31st October 2017? Halloween would make an excellent release date for a horror title.
While a sequel hasn't yet been announced, this job advert seems like pretty compelling evidence to its existence. Both Bethesda and Tango Gameworks have talked about The Evil Within as a franchise rather than a standalone title, so there's no reason to think a sequel wouldn't be coming at some point.
No doubt we'll have an official announcement sooner rather than later, so watch this space.
