The Witcher 3 is brilliant – no doubt about about it – but if you’re an Xbox gamer who’s a fan of achievements, it can be more than a little bit frustrating.
You see, many of The Witcher 3‘s achievements are glitchy as heck, meaning that sometimes you’re not awarded those alluring Gamerscore boosting points for meeting their requirements. I’ve encountered it myself: I’ve killed way more than the necessary three enemies by returning their own arrows back at them and I’ve also been under the effect of seven potions at once more than a few times, but will the achievements for doing so unlock? Hell no!
A quick glance of the forum for The Witcher 3 on Xbox Achievements indicates that the problem is quite widespread, with many Xbox One gamers even struggling to be rightly rewarded for finishing the game or reaching the max character level. As you can imagine, they’re not particularly happy, and I understand their pain.
Many claim that the game of the year version of The Witcher 3, which has its own separate achievement list, is even worse for not awarding you achievements that you’ve completed. It seems strange that this would be the case, and having just bought it I really hope it’s not that much worse.
There’s a glimmer of hope for those affected by The Witcher 3‘s achievement problems though. Sometimes they do eventually unlock, just way after the event. Some have also found that clearing the Xbox One console’s cache helps, though I’ve had no such luck.
Hopefully CD Projekt will eventually look into the issue, but it’s unlikely given that the achievements seem to have been problematic for over a year now. It’s a shame too, as with the game recently receiving an Xbox One X update, it’s absolutely stunning on Microsoft’s new console.
So, if you’re really into collecting achievements be warned: The Witcher 3 is a brilliant game, but it’s likely to swindle you out of your hard-earned Gamerscore points.
