Guest Characters We’d Love to See in Fighting Games

The Guest Characters That Fighting Games Need
Guest characters are all the rage in fighting games these days, it would seem.
We’ve had Noctis in Tekken 7, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Injustice 2, and pretty soon we’ll have Geralt of Rivia in Soul Calibur VI. Though the practice isn’t totally new. Anyone remember Yoda and Darth Vader being in Soul Calibur IV?
The fact of the matter is, though, that guest characters don’t always gel very well. Sometimes they feel a bit forced. Like they’re more of a marketing move than a worthwhile inclusion. Though that being said, as a marketing move it probably works; being able to play as Ezio certainly made me more interested in Soul Calibur V.
Anyway, the the whole guest character thing got us wondering just who we’d like to see making an appearance in our favourite fighting games. Who would be our perfect guest characters? Read on to find out.
Ashley J. Williams

Fighting game series he should appear in: Mortal Kombat
Ashley J. Williams, played by B-movie legend Bruce Campbell, has been killing deadites on and off for over 20 years now. Honestly, the Evil Dead movies are some of the best comedy horrors of all time, and more recently there’s been the Ash vs Evil Dead TV series which is well worth checking out. There has even been a few Evil Dead video games over the years.
What Ashley J. Williams hasn’t done, however, is appear as a character in a fighting game. He’d fit in perfectly with the cast of Mortal Kombat, providing a bit of humour alongside Johnny Cage. He’s a competent fighter in his own silly way, and his Boomstick and chainsaw combo opens up some interesting possibilities for Fatalities. Groovy!
Kazuma Kiryu

Fighting game series he should appear in: Street Fighter or Tekken
Kazuma Kiryu may not be the protagonist of the Yakuza series going forward, but that doesn’t mean he should just disappear.
With his brutal hand-to-hand combat skills he’d make a great addition to the Tekken lineup. We reckon he’d certainly be a match for the likes of Heihachi Mishima, Nina Williams and Marshall Law. At a push he could even mix in with the cast of Street Fighter rather well. To be honest, we don’t really care which fighting game he appears in: he just needs to be in one pronto, because Kiryu is effortlessly cool.
Master Chief

Fighting game series he should appear in: Killer Instinct
There’s only one fighting game that Master Chief could realistically be in isn’t there? Killer Instinct.
Being honest, we really don’t know why he hasn’t appeared in it already. After all, the Arbiter is in it, and so is General RAAM. Anyway, Master Chief would make a great addition to Killer Instinct‘s lineup of fighters, and we’re sure Halo fans around the globe would love to kick ass with him. Maybe Microsoft just doesn’t want to show him being too violent?
The Bride, a.k.a. Beatrix Kiddo, a.k.a. Black Mamba

Fighting game series she should appear in: Soul Calibur
It’s quite a travesty that no video game based on Kill Bill has ever been made. It’s only right, then, that Beatrix Kiddo, also known as The Bride or Black Mamba, should appear in a fighting game.
With her sword fighting skills, she’d make a perfect guest character for the Soul Calibur series. She took on the Crazy 88 and emerged victorious, after all. She’s strong and determined and has a style all of her own. We can’t think of a convincing reason why she’d appear in Soul Calibur, but then who cares? Come on Bandai Namco, make it happen.
Lara Croft

Fighting game series she should appear in: Mortal Kombat, Injustice, or Dead or Alive
Lara Croft has got a bit brutal as of late, hasn’t she? As such, we wouldn’t be surprised to see her joining the pugilists of Mortal Kombat. We’re sure she wouldn’t mind penetrating some skulls with her pickaxe to finish fights.
Alternatively, if Crystal Dynamics wanted to represent Lara in more of a PG-13 manner, she could fight alongside the combatants of Injustice. After all, there’s still plenty of violence involving weapons in that, just no blood or gore. And finally, seeing as gamers have been overly obsessed with Lara’s boobs in the past, many would probably love to see her in Dead or Alive. We don’t know if her hand-to-hand combat skills would measure up to the task, though.
Senua

Fighting game series she should appear in: Soul Calibur
Senua may be troubled, but she’s still more than competent at fighting with a sword.
We could just imagine Senua appearing in Soul Calibur, battling against the likes of Mitsurugi and Nightmare. She’d certainly bring something different to the character roster. And, after going through what she has gone through, we’re sure she’d take finding herself in another universe in her stride. Senua is probably the strongest warrior of them all, all things considered.
Solid Snake

Fighting game series he should appear in: Dead or Alive
With his close quarters combat skills, Solid Snake should definitely appear in a Dead or Alive game.
He’d look right at home kicking and punching opponents in a multitude of environments, and he’d be fairly used to his opponents being scantily clad, too. In fact, he’d probably quite like it. Will it ever happen? We doubt it. But with Konami being how it is at the moment, there’s probably more of a chance than ever.
Alucard

Fighting game series he should appear in: Soul Calibur
We don’t care if it’s the Symphony of the Night or Lords of Shadow 2 version of Alucard that appears in Soul Calibur, it just needs to happen.
With his flowing white hair, soothing voice and razor sharp sword skills, Alucard is the perfect fighting game fodder. In fact, you may not remember but Alucard has already appeared in a fighting game, just not as a guest character. The little known Castlevania Judgement was a fighting game released for the Wii in 2008, but it was awful. Better forget about it and hope that he somehow makes an appearance elsewhere. We would honestly buy any fighting game that Alucard appeared in.
Wei Shen

Fighting game series he should appear in: Mortal Kombat
In combat, Wei Shen takes things to the next level considering he’s an undercover cop and all.
Sleeping Dogs‘ likeable protagonist isn’t afraid of feeding his opponents to meat grinders, pushing their faces into fans, or simply just electrocuting them. And weapons are another one of his fortes. From meat cleavers to guns, if he can use it to end the lives of his adversaries just that bit quicker, he’ll use it. We’d love to play as Wei Shen in a Mortal Kombat game, brutalising opponents left right and centre. Failing that, we’ll just take a sequel to Sleeping Dogs. Please?
Kat

Fighting game series she should appear in: Street Fighter
Gravity Rush‘s Kat just doesn’t quite get the love she deserves.
With her ability to manipulate gravity, we’d love to see her join the cast of Street Fighter. Kicking opponents is her thing, and we reckon that she could give plenty of Street Fighter‘s stalwarts a good seeing to doing just that. She’d spend a lot of time flying around the screen, but it could be fun, and aesthetically we think she’d fit right in. It could do wonders to make her more popular, too. The Gravity Rush games are criminally underappreciated.
