The Final Fantasy XIV and Monster Hunter World Crossover Begins Today

Have you had the distinct feeling lately that your Final Fantasy XIV experience just hasn’t had enough Rathalos battles in it? Well, today’s your lucky day.

As teased during this year’s E3 conference, Final Fantasy XIV and Monster Hunter World are crossing over, beginning today. Final Fantasy XIV will update to version 4.36 today, and with it, the giant dragon Rathalos from Monster Hunter World will be added into the game.

The Rathalos can be battled in either Normal or Extreme difficulty, and upon defeating it, you’ll be given “numerous in-game rewards”.

If you’re a level 70 player and you’ve completed the main Stormblood questline, you’ll be able to take on a brand new challenge – “The New King of the Block” – that will let you face off against a Rathalos in an eight-player battle that borrows mechanics from Monster Hunter World.

The unique Monster Hunter-themed rewards you can bag include:

  • a Rathalos armour set
  • new minions, Poogie and Palico
  • a new Rathalos mount
  • new furnishings, including a BBQ spit roast

Along with the Rathalos, a new area will be added to Final Fantasy XIV as part of the Forbidden Land Eureka series. Here you’ll be able to further strengthen your Eureka weapons, and hopefully obtain one of the new Monster Hunter-themed minions. That Palico is too cute for words.
