With its Worn Panties, Senran Kagura Reflexions Crosses the Line

Senran Kagura Reflexions

What did you do this weekend? I pleasured a woman by slapping her breasts, grabbing her inner thigh and prodding her face. Virtually.

Now available exclusively on Nintendo Switch, Senran Kagura Reflexions is a game that crosses my line; a line that is very rarely drawn. In fact, before Senran Kagura Reflexions, I wasn’t quite sure that I had one.

While other Senran Kagura games go out of their way to provide plenty of titillation, they also have plenty of gameplay to go alongside it. Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus and many others have heaps of combat, Senran Kagura Bon Apétit! is a music rhythm game dressed up as a cooking contest, and Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash takes the series into team-based third person shooter territory. They’ve all got their fair share of questionable content, but you can avoid most of it and still have a good time. Senran Kagura Reflexions, however, takes the worst part of those games and builds on it, making it an experience that’s pretty much without any merit.

Every Senran Kagura game I’ve played features a “Dress Up” mode. It’s where you can, unsurprisingly, change the clothes that their all-female lineup of characters wear. It sounds innocent enough until you learn that you can also interact with the characters in this mode, moving a pair of what look like Mickey Mouse gloves around them to grab, slap and touch them anywhere you please. Sometimes they respond to your interactions excitedly, other times they’ll be embarrassed and ask you to stop. You don’t have to though; in the Senran Kagura games, the girls are your playthings.

Senran Kagura Reflexions is essentially “Dress Up” mode turned into a game of its own. It features only one character, Asuka, and your aim is to repeatedly give her massages to draw out her deepest desires. Or something like that, anyway. Each session starts with you touching her hands in a classroom, but soon as she’s relaxed you’re whisked away to a new environment. After some innuendo-laden dialogue, it time for you to get to work; basically, you’ve got to touch her on various parts of her body to give her pleasure. You can slap her, prod her, grab her; it’s up to you. You can even squirt her with water if you please. All will elicit some kind of reaction. Well, except softly touching her, which seemingly does nothing.

After only minutes of playing Senran Kagura Reflexions, you feel dirty. There’s no point to the game other than to make a digital female avatar your plaything; to give her pleasure even though it often makes her uncomfortable. She’ll tell you not to touch her bottom, for instance, but the game still rewards you for doing so, making her reaction inconsequential. And once you’ve fondled her enough, she’ll be ready for the final stage of your massage session: Glorious Reflexology.

Posed in ways I’m sure a true masseuse would furrow their brow at, Senran Kagura Reflexions’ Glorious Reflexology sessions have you performing a number of techniques on Asuka to make her collapse in ecstasy. Initially you’ll be repeatedly slapping just one of her inner thighs before rubbing your hands up her leg,  but more techniques are unlocked over time. Whichever technique you choose to use, however, the gameplay is the same; you either move the joy-cons rhythmically, or flick the left and right analogue sticks. It’s about as engaging as it sounds.

As dirty as Senran Kagura Reflexion‘s “gameplay” makes you feel though, it’s one of the game’s early unlockables that is truly unfathomable: worn panties. While in the game’s main Reflexology mode Asuka wears preset outfits, you can dress her however you please in Dress Up mode and then head on over to Mini-Reflexology mode to interact with her in your chosen attire. One of the items you can force her to wear is a pair of “worn panties”, which rest around one kneecap. You can unlock more than one type of worn panties too, and it all feels very distasteful, even for a Senran Kagura game. In one fell swoop, Senran Kagura Reflexions moves from being worryingly creepy to downright perverted. It crosses the line and makes you feel uncomfortable.

Honestly, there’s nothing positive to say about Senran Kagura Reflexions. It’s a game devoid of any real gameplay, just repetitive tasks for you to complete to fulfil your perverted fantasies. I guess for some people that’ll be a draw, and that’s a real worry. While there are many games out there that objectify Japanese girls and throw their semi-naked bodies at you or show you their underwear at every opportunity, that’s the only point of Senran Kagura Reflexions. And not only that, but it goes all-in on making it feel more lecherous and unsavoury than ever. Basically, it’s a game that shouldn’t exist. If you do want to see what it’s all about, don’t spend your money on it. Simply watch the gameplay video embedded in the middle of this article, and you’ve seen all that it has to offer.
