The holidays are coming, and that means we want to count down to them in the best way possible.
We’re of course talking about advent calendars. Forget those boring ones with 24 little chocolates behind the window. It’s not that we don’t like chocolate, but we can have that any time. Instead, we want something gaming-themed. 24 little windows filled with video game merchandise and related geeky goodness. What could be better?
Thankfully, as time moves on, more and more merchandise-based advent calendars become available. And that means there are plenty of gaming advent calendars to choose from. We’ve rounded up some of the best ones we could find.
If you want to buy any of them, please consider using our affiliate buttons included below each entry. It won’t cost you any extra, but it means GameSpew will earn a tiny fraction of your purchase – and those tiny amounts add up to go a long way to support us.
Pokémon Advent Calendar
Gotta catch ’em all! Okay, just who wouldn’t want this Pokémon-themed advent calendar? Behind its 24 windows you’ll find 16 figurines of popular Pokémon creatures, along with eight Christmassy accessories. The figurines are obviously the highlight here, with many of our favourite Pokémon included – there’s Scorbunny, Bulbasaur, Eevee, and even an adorable Pikachu holding a Christmas gift.
There’s also a Pokémon Mega Construx advent calendar, which lets you build some of your favourite Pokémon.
Five Nights at Freddy’s Pint-Size Heroes Advent Calendar
Five Nights at Freddy’s and ‘Advent Calendar’ are not two things we expected to find together, but here we are. Created by Funko, this calendar contains 24 Five Nights at Freddy’s-themed ‘Pint Size Heroes’. They’re essentially tiny Funko Pop! vinyl figures, measuring between 1.5 and 2 inches tall. Aww. If you prefer your Christmas season to have a bit of nightmare fuel stitched into it, then this is surely one of the best gaming advent calendars you can buy.
Minecraft Mini Figures Advent Calendar
If you’re into Minecraft, the chances are you’ll find this Minecraft Advent Calendar simply adorable. In it you’ll find twelve Minecraft-themed miniature figures and twelve various holiday-themed accessories. Those figures are adorable though; who knew a Creeper dressed as a Christmas tree could warm our hearts so much?
Nintendo 12 Days of Socks Advent Calendar
We’re taking liberties with this one a little bit. This ’12 Days of Socks’ box isn’t quite an advent calendar. There’s only 12 items in it for starters, though each is behind its own window. But Nintendo-themed socks? Personally we can’t think of anything cooler than dressing up our feet with Mario, Link and Donkey Kong-themed patterns. As far as we’re concerned, this is one of the best gaming advent calendars out there, even if it does only have 12 windows.
Hot Wheels ‘North Pole Test Track’ Advent Calendar
Since we’ve recently had a Hot Wheels video game out, this Hot Wheels advent calendar is now fair game for making this list of best gaming advent calendars. Yes, maybe we’re stretching a little bit, but it is pretty cool. It comes with eight Hot Wheels cars, and the rest of the windows contain Christmas-themed decorations or accessories. And the calendar itself folds out to reveal a small track to race around. Vroom vroom.
