There’s a new song out on Friday by Black Eyed Peas, Shakira and David Guetta called ‘Don’t You Worry’, but if you own Beatstar, you can listen to it (and play along with it) for free, right now.
Why are we telling you this? Well, we don’t really care about the song. It’s… fine. It’s nobody’s best work, and it’s not going to set the world on fire. But what is cool is that a mobile game – a free-to-play music rhythm game – has become a big enough platform that it now launches songs.
‘Don’t You Worry’ by The Black Eyed Peas et al launched today inside Beatstar. Every other regular music platform will have to wait until this Friday to get their hands on it. It’s not the first time brand new songs have been available in the app – The Chainsmokers recently dropped a couple of songs on their launch date, free for players – but it is the first time songs have been launched exclusively on Beatstar.
If you’re unfamiliar with Beatstar, we suppose we should start with what it even is. It’s a free to play rhythm game available on Android and iOS. Sort of like Guitar Hero that you play with your fingers, you hit notes in time with the beat. It’s loaded with various real-world songs, new and old, from all genres. And by playing, you’ll earn rewards and unlock more songs.

We’ve been playing quite a lot recently, and can confirm it’s a rather addictive little game. We’re clearly not the only ones to think so: Beatstar has had more than 30 million players since it launched last year, with certain songs being played over one million times a day. With figures like that, then, it’s no surprise that some artists (or their labels) are choosing to launch songs in this novel way.
If you do already have Beatstar installed, simply load up the app and toggle to the ‘hub’ tab. In there, select ‘news’ and you’ll see a tile to click where you can claim ‘Don’t You Worry’ by Black Eyed Peas, Shakira and David Guetta for free. After clicking in it and hitting the ‘claim now’ button, the song will be in your library.
If you’re yet to play it, you can download it for free on iOS or Android. Give it a go: if you’re a music fan, chances are you’ll like it. We’ll have more about Beatstar in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
