OlliOlli World’s VOID Riders DLC is an Out-Of-This-World Reason to Jump Back In

OlliOlli World Void Riders

It might have only come out in February, but we’d forgotten just how much of a joy OlliOlli World is. With a new DLC crash-landing today, it’s the perfect time to jump back in.

VOID Riders brings aliens into the fold of OlliOlli World. A new series of levels will open up in each world, challenging players to perform out-of-this-world tricks, be beamed up by UFO tractor beams, and smash records set by your new skateboarding alien pals. No, it doesn’t revolutionise the game, but it adds a couple of neat twists – and a reason to go back – to a game that already was excellent.

You’ll need to have reached OlliOlli World‘s third world before you can access the VOID Riders content, so if you’re new you’ll need to play for an hour or two before you reach that point. It’s for the best; the levels in VOID Riders aren’t for beginners, so you’ll certainly appreciate spending the time getting to know the game’s mechanics inside-out. Heck, even when you do know the mechanics inside out, you’re still going to have to put in a fair bit of practice to master the new tracks.

The main addition to VOID Riders‘ levels that changes up the gameplay are those alien tractor beams. Perform a grab while inside them (hold the right thumbstick in any direction) and you’ll be lifted up. They’re a key mechanic for gaining height and making jumps between platforms. Usually, it means chaining together a lot of tricks: grinds, jumps, wall-runs and grabs, at the very least. Getting everything just right can take some time, but when you do nail it, it leaves you feeling like a supernatural skateboarding wizard.

It looks fantastic too, but that goes without saying if you’ve already played OlliOlli World. The gorgeous style of the game is given new life thanks to the extra-terrestrial flavour added to everything. The worlds you’ve already played through have been transformed and so while levels have a somewhat familiar setting, the new mechanics help them feel fresh and exciting.

Costing £9.99, VOID Riders isn’t the cheapest piece of DLC out there, but it’s absolutely worth the entry price. Particularly so if you’re picking up the OlliOlli World Rad Edition, which bundles up the game, VOID Riders and another piece of DLC set to launch later this year. That’s only £35.99, and undoubtedly the best way to purchase the game if you haven’t set foot in it yet.

If you have, then this DLC offers the perfect excuse to revisit OlliOlli World. You’ll need to polish up your skating skills to master Void Riders‘ new challenges, but you’ll be glad of a reason to go back. We certainly are. This is one hell of a slick skating game, and the new DLC only cements that.

OlliOlli World (and its Void Riders DLC) is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC.
