Hohokum is Now on Steam, And It’s as Wonderful as Ever

Hohokum

A PlayStation-exclusive title since 2014, the indie gem Hohokum is now on Steam.

Stealth-dropped during tonight’s presentation from Annapurna Interactive, Honeyslug’s whimsical title is available for the first time on a platform outside of Sony’s infrastructure. If you’ve never played Hohokum before and enjoy playing something a little different from the norm, we’d recommend giving it a go. It’s just as good as ever on Steam – and, happily, it plays wonderfully on Steam Deck, too.

Trying to describe exactly what Hohokum is is rather difficult, however. This is a game that defies typical genre labels, casting players as a snake-like creature known as “Long Mover”. Hohokum‘s art and music design is the key here, and as players make their way through multiple environments, interacting with colourful, wonderfully-designed elements.

You might say it’s a case of style over substance, but there’s something trance-like about Hohokum. As you begin, you’ll likely have no idea what you’re doing or where you’re supposed to go. But you’ll find yourself compelled to push on, discovering the game’s magical world as you play.

Perhaps the release of an eight-year-old game on Steam is nothing to get excited about. And if you’ve played it to death on PS3, PS4 or PS Vita – yes, Hohokum is so old that it even released on PS3 – there’s nothing new here. But for those who missed it, it’s well worth jumping into if you fancy a joyous, colourful romp filled with charm and beautiful art.

Hohokum is available on Steam priced at $9.99 or your regional equivalent.
