Resident Evil Village’s latest trailer features an extended look at its Mercenaries game mode, which looks looks to be fun, if a little harrowing.
But that’s the point of Mercenaries mode – it’s meant to challenge long-time Resident Evil Village players. That’s why Chris Redfield, Heisenberg and Lady Dimitrescu, the three characters featured in the trailer, are facing down waves and waves of foes.
But hang on… isn’t Resident Evil Village already out? It is, and it’s superb. But Capcom is releasing a Gold version, which will feature the Mercenaries mode, a new chapter where you play as protagonist Ethan’s daughter, and more. Collectively, these are dubbed “The Winter’s Expansion”, and will also be released with Village as Resident Evil Village Gold.
What’s striking about Mercenaries mode, however, is that when you play as Lady Dimitrescu, Resident Evil Village’s much thirsted-after antagonist, your view changes so you’re watching the foes from above. Why? Because she’s nearly ten feet tall.
Yes, this makes it sound like she’s got Mercenaries mode in the bag, but given you’re facing down giant wolf-men with hammers, we still think she’ll have her work cut out for her. There’s no story, as far as we know, just various characters taking on hordes of foes, but you can bet we’re picking Lady D first.
You can get your hands on Resident Evil Village Gold, including Mercenaries mode, when it launches this 28th of October, across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Mac and Stadia.
