Sea of Thieves’ Season 7 update is set to make you the captain of your own ship, as Rare’s newest content video explains.
If, as a Sea of Thieves player, you’re scratching your head and wondering what the hell you’ve been doing so far, we’ll explain. Yes, if you dive into Sea of Thieves pre-Season 7, you get a ship to roam around in. But there’s nothing that sets that ship apart from any other ship. And when you leave the game and return, you get another ship which, while it might look identical, is a different vessel
Sea of Thieves’ Season 7 update, on the other hand, which arrives this Thursday, lets you name your own ship, customise it to your hearts content with knick-knacks, captain’s chairs and the like. And yes, Rare have anticipated people giving their vessels utterly filthy names, though we’re eager to see how effective their censor is.
What’s really interesting about this update, however, as far as captaincy goes, is that your ship can really stand out, cosmetically speaking. Make it distinctive enough and people may choose to stay clear, or they may decide to attack just to see if you’re as tough as you’re reputed to be. The scars your ship takes in battle will, too, be visible, unless you choose to repaint the vessel.
Captaincy is by the most interesting feature, but there are other additions as well – for example, you can string together multiple activities, essentially giving your crew – or just you if you’re playing alone – your own long-form mission. There are also Sovereigns, new salesmen who’ll purchase your loot, no matter which faction it was destined for. You can check out all the features in the video below.
Season 7 launches this August 4th (after a brief delay); Sea of Thieves is available on PC and Xbox, as well as through PC and Xbox Game Pass.
