Fancy rolling around as a big ball of chrome? Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 has you covered.
Fortnite Season 4’s big news, story-wise, is that the island is being invaded by Chrome, a substance that absorbs other people and turns them into chrome copies. Though it sounds like a huge existential nightmare, players can touch the Chrome and become a Terminator 2-style liquid metal being, turning into a blob to race across the landscape.
Yes, there’s definitely a shade of Splatoon in there too, but it sounds like a fun way to shake things up. It’s not the only new addition to this massively popular online game, though. Season 4 introduces several new skins including Marvel’s Spider-Gwen and Paradigm, who hails from a reality near-devastated by the Chrome.
The latter is played by Brie “Captain Marvel” Larson, though Paradigm’s suit is heavily, heavily borrowed from Iron Man/Rescue’s, right down to the heads up display featured in the below trailer. In fact, if Epic didn’t already use Iron Man in their game, we suspect Marvel would be consulting their lawyers.
Shiny, happy people aside, there are several other additions, which you can find detailed here. But the highlights include:
- You can use vials of Chrome to pass through walls.
- Condo Canyon is now Cloudy Condos, having lifted into the air to avoid the Chrome.
- There are two new weapons, the EvoChrome Shotgun and EvoChrome Burst Rifle.
- Several older weapons are returning
- Sniper rifles are more powerful
- You can deploy a Port-a-Bunker, replacing the Port-a-Fort
All these additions are available now. Fortnite is free-to-play and doesn’t require PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold, so you can dive in right now. It’s available for for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC.
