Sea of Thieves Season 8 Adds More Crew vs. Crew Mayhem

Sea of Thieves Season Eight

Sea of Thieves Season 8 is here, bringing with it a new Battle for the Sea mode.

That’s not the only addition featured in Sea of Thieves Season 8, which launched yesterday. The multiplayer pirate game now has new treasures to add to your ship, covering it in gold and trinkets. And those who’ve purchased the game’s Plunder Pass get the Ravenwood Ship Collection, to go with the feathered Ravenwood costume.

But it’s Battle for the Sea that sounds the most appealing. Ship to ship combat is a big part of Sea of Thieves, though if you’re after a battle you’ll have to hunt down a foe. Battle for the Seas should take the work out of that, throwing you into a faction-based endurance battle. Alongside other players you’ll fight to crush the opposing faction, sending them to Davy Jones’ locker.

Naturally, there are rewards, apart from just being able to thumb your nose at the enemy. Sink four ships in a row and you become a Champion. Hurrah! Except.. that means that other players can get more points by annihilating. Such are the pressures of fame, we guess. You’ll also receive faction rewards, so there’s a real reason to get involved in these ship-to-ship brawls.

Sea of Thieves Season 8 is out now and you can find full details of the new season here. If you’ve not tackled Sea of Thieves yet, it’s available on Xbox and PC. It’s also free via Game Pass so if you’re a subscriber you’ve no excuse not to dip your toes in the shark-infested waters.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
