The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Speedruns Could Be Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Speedrunning

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s new crafting system could, as one YouTube animator notes, be a blessing for speedrunners.

This Tears of the Kingdom video, from YouTuber Matthew McCleskey, pokes fun at both the new crafting elements and speedrunning in general. We’ll certainly be a little disappointed if you can’t actually run Ganon over.

The rotoscoped animation sees Link dispatching Ganon in under two minutes. Mowing him down is the coup-de-grace, after he… well, we won’t spoil it. But let’s face it, let players build a car and they’re absolutely going to abuse the privilege.

In fact, we’re not sure Nintendo has really thought this through. The new system is bound to lead to all manner of speedrunning shenanigans. The previous game in the series, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, has been conquered in under 25 minutes. So while two minutes may be a little optimistic it’s not as ridiculous as you might think.

You can watch the video above and subscribe to McClesky’s channel here. And while you’re there, be sure to check out his jab at HBO’s The Last of Us. Sure, Season 1 was fantastic but it’s not The Last of Us unless Joel’s filling his pockets with rags.

As for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it arrives on Nintendo Switch this May 12.

Weekend Editor // Chris has been gaming since the days of the Acorn Electron, which was allegedly purchased to 'help him with his homework'. You can probably guess how well that went. He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
