Please, Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island, Let Us Play as Stan

Sea of Thieves The Legend of Monkey Island

As impressive-looking as Sea of Thieves’ The Legend of Monkey Island trailer is, we wish this pirate game would let us play as Stan.

The trailer, revealed at last night’s Xbox Games Showcase, is pretty cool, we admit. And, as detailed by Xbox’s own site, it could be an absolute treat for Monkey Island fans. Sure, we’re not 100% sold on Guybrush’s beard, but as “what if” scenarios go, it’s fun.

It’s set to be three Sea of Thieves adventures and will feature voice actors from the games, including Dominic Armato as Guybrush Threepwood. Sadly, Earl Boen passed away this year, so he won’t be voicing LeChuck.

But what really has us paying attention is the presence of Stan in the trailer. We’d love the opportunity to play as Stan, selling ships to would-be pirates. If you’ve played any of the Monkey Island games you’ll know how hilariously shady he is and we’d love to get involved in those sort of shenanigans.

There could be some kind of House Flipper-style minigame where you fix up a ship, but only superficially. You know, just enough to fool a buyer but not enough to last more than a couple of voyages. You’d have to move your shop from island to island, just so they couldn’t find you.

Is that going to happen? Probably not, though we hope that Stan gets more than just a brief cameo. What if you could buy ships half price from Stan, but with a 1 in 5 chance they’d start leaking? Would you take the risk?

Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island arrives in three monthly chunks, beginning this July 20th on both PC and Xbox.

He’ll tackle most genres – football titles aside – though he has a taste for games that that are post-apocalyptic, horror-oriented or thought provoking in nature.
