Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Launches 21st June

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree (1)

Shadow of the Erdtree, the eagerly awaited expansion for Elden Ring, has finally been revealed. Even better, it has a launch date. On 21st June you’ll be able to jump back into Elden Ring’s hostile world to discover a whole new area filled with fresh new challenges for you to overcome.

In Shadow of the Erdtree, Elden Ring players will be able to visit The Land of Shadow, a new area where you will apparently be able to “follow in the footsteps if Miquella and unravel the dark side of the Elden Ring story”.

Check out the game’s official gameplay reveal trailer below, and you can get a taste of what’s to come.

Thanks to an interview conducted by IGN with game director Hidetaka Miyazaki, however, we have some finer details about the expansion, and it sounds grand. For a start, The Land of Shadow is said to be a little bigger than Limgrave, which means it’s pretty sizeable. Its stands separate from The Lands Between, too, meaning you’ll have to transfer there. In terms of structure, it will have a mix of open areas and legacy dungeons, like in the original game, but players might find more of a mix between the two as well, which will be interesting.

In another interview with Eurogamer, Hidetaka Miyazaki also revealed that Shadow of the Erdtree will include over 10 new bosses, some of which may be as troublesome to beat as Malenia. As you’d expect there are also going to be many new weapons, pieces of equipment and skills added to the game. In fact, eight new weapon categories have been added to account for the new weapon types. Colour us excited.

Pre-orders are live now for Shadow of the Erdtree, with prices starting at £34.99 on PC and £39.99 on console. Premium and Deluxe editions are also available, with the latter including the base game and the expansion. For true fans, a physical collector’s edition is also available to preorder. Including a 40-page hardcover artbook and a 46cm statue of Messmer the Impaler, it’s sure to be very popular indeed.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree launches 21st June on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
