Brick Life is another LEGO game coming to Fortnite this Thursday

Perhaps it’s because I’m old, but I don’t get Fortnite. Actually, scratch that: it’s not that I don’t get it, I just don’t like that it’s become its own platform. Boot up Fortnite these days and you’re presented with a myriad of games and user-generated experiences to play. Not only is it an assault on the senses, but you also feel like your bank balance is mere seconds away from being raided by a deluge of microtransactions. It’s for that reason I’m surprised that The LEGO Group has become such bed buddies with Epic Games. But hey, money talks.
Anyway, not happy with just having one LEGO game in Fortnite, this week another one is launching. Tomorrow, the existing LEGO Fortnite, a survival game, becomes LEGO Fortnite Odyssey as well as receiving a major update that includes a new mighty boss. That frees up the name LEGO Fortnite to simply serve as a hub for all LEGO games within Fortnite. And then, on Thursday 12th December, LEGO Fortnite Brick Life will be born into the world.
So, what is LEGO Fortnite Brick Life? It’s a “social roleplaying game” for up to 32 players, allowing them to live it up in the heart of a bustling LEGO city. Aside from using it to interact with others via text chat, players will be able to customise their dream home as well as take on jobs, with more content, features and resources to be added over time post launch. You can check out the trailer below.
I’m getting a bit of a LEGO GTA vibe from LEGO Fortnite Brick Life, even though there’s not a whiff of crime about it. And I have to admit, I am rather intrigued by it. Just what exactly are the jobs you can complete? If they’re like missions where there’s an actual challenge and you can earn money, it could be pretty good. If it is simply focused on being more of a social experience, however, then I’m out.
In any case, if you’re a LEGO or a Fortnite fan, you might want to check out LEGO Fortnite Brick Life when it launches on Thursday just to see what it’s all about.
