Now available on PlayStation, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate is a roguelike best enjoyed with friends

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate has had quite the journey. Developed by Super Evil Megacorp, the title was first released for Apple devices via Apple Arcade back in 2023. Then it was ported to Switch in mid-2024 before hitting PC later in the year. Now it’s landed on PlayStation consoles, with Xbox consoles to follow shortly. And since its launch on Apple Arcade, work has been done with each subsequent release to make it a little bit better.
We reviewed the Switch version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate upon its launch last July, calling it “a very well-made roguelike, combining excellent presentation, rewarding progression and, most importantly, thrilling action that keeps you hooked.” Now we’ve been hands-on with the PS5 version of the game, and have been enjoying it even more. And it largely comes down to the wonderful inclusion of couch co-op play.
The option to play via couch co-op isn’t new to the PlayStation versions of the game, it’s also available in the Switch and PC versions as well. But the mode feels best suited to PS5, as it allows multiple players to team up together on the couch, playing the game on a large TV with crisp visuals and, even better, flawless performance. This is a roguelike, after all, and you don’t want to feel like your death was hastened by slowdown or performance hiccups, do you?
Playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate in co-op is easy, and if local co-op isn’t convenient for you, online co-op is also available. With multiple players taking control of the heroes in a half-shell, the action is faster and more chaotic than ever before, and they can work as a team to take down the most troublesome of enemies. Sure, it makes the game somewhat easier, but you will eventually hit what feels like a bit of a wall if you’ve not failed a time or two and invested some of the Dragon Coins you’ve earned into permanent upgrades.

In fact, there’s only one thing that will sully for couch co-op experience for those playing on PlayStation: whoever’s along for the ride won’t earn any Trophies, while the primary player will. It’s an issue with most couch co-op games on the format, however, and some won’t really mind or care.
In any case, the fact remains that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate remains one of the best roguelikes in the vein of Hades out there. It’s a game that’s easy to pick up and play, is fun alone or with others, and has a wealth of upgrades and other helpful items to unlock that will make subsequent runs more manageable and more fun. The action is only enhanced when you factor in the Casey Jones & the Junkyard Jam DLC, which adds in another playable character, Casey Jones, and a new area to visit which introduces new enemies and more.
So, whether you’re a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or simply a fan of roguelikes, you should probably consider Splintered Fate essential playing. Even more so if you also like games you can play with others while sitting comfortably on your couch. With its thrilling combat and wealth of options within each run, it’s the type of game that offers hours upon hours of chaotic fun no matter how you decide to play.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate is available on PS4, PS5, Switch and PC, with an Xbox release planned for June.
