The Mortuary Assistant, a deeply creepy game where you’re a solo mortuary worker dealing with a demonic entity, hits theaters this February. Now, this game-to-movie horror has dropped its first trailer, and it’s seriously spooky.

We’re not 100% convinced The Mortuary Assistant needed to be a movie, much as we enjoyed the game. But compared to some video game adaptations, it requires zero knowledge of its source material. Yes, we’re talking about you, Amazon’s God of War.

The Mortuary Assistant movie features Arrow’s Willa Holland as Rebecca Owens who, like her in-game counterpart, is working alone at night. In fact, it looks to follow the plot of the game fairly closely, with a demonic entity causing her to hallucinate, in its efforts to possess her.

The fact that these visions aren’t real means the movie can go wild with its monsters. The trailer, which you can watch below, features a spider-walking creature, a black shadow with glowing red eyes and what appears to be Rebecca’s own doppelgänger. Her one lifeline is mortuary owner Raymond Delver, played by Boardwalk Empire’s Paul Sparks.

The movie is set for a limited theatrical release from February 13th, before later arriving on streaming horror service Shudder. That said, given Markiplier’s Iron Lung movie has gone international, it’s possible The Mortuary Assistant could get an expanded showing. At the very least, we’ve got our fingers crossed for a novelty popcorn bucket.
