Remember Doom: The Dark Ages? We absolutely do. In our review, we give it an astonishing 10/10 rating, remarking that “Being in control of a Doom Slayer who essentially feels like a tank, waging war against a literal army of demons from hell, has never been so wildly entertaining.”

However, nine months after its release, we were starting to wonder whether its promised DLC was actually going to happen. Now, game director Hugo Martin has confirmed that not only is it happening, it’s set to be sequel-sized.

Speaking on the Slayers Club livestream (as spotted by GamesRadar), Martin said that “I know that it’s been ultimately a while since we shipped the main game and you’re waiting for the DLC, but just know that it’s freaking huge. It’s basically like a sequel.”

While playing the main game on stream, Martin also remarked that he’d been playing the DLC differently, suggesting that, aside from new monsters and locations, it’ll mix things up. Those in the chat attempted to eke more information out of him, but he remained tight-lipped.

It’s not the first time the new Doom games have received some hefty DLC. While Doom remained DLC free, Doom Eternal had a massive two-part expansion, The Ancient Gods, which saw you taking the fight to Satan. Doom: The Dark Ages doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, but there are absolutely story threads to pick up on.

However, the DLC still doesn’t have a release date. It makes sense that it’d be released on the 1 year anniversary of Doom: The Dark Ages. Doom Eternal’s DLC also dropped a year after the base game launched.
