PowerWash Simulator 2’s Adventure Time Pack looks great, but doesn’t scrub up so well

PowerWash Simulator 2’s Adventure Time Pack has provided me with my single favourite video game moment so far this year: getting to pet BMO on the head. It’s of course not the only good thing about this DLC, which has you power washing the world of Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time, but it’s certainly up there amongst the best. It’s also worth noting BMO will squeal with glee if you fire your hose at them. 10/10, no notes.
It turns out, though, that the Land of Ooo doesn’t make for the most enjoyable PowerWash Simulator experience. The bizarre and comedic cartoon has been expertly created here, with the entire PowerWash Simulator 2 art style morphing to suit. Even your character has been changed to fit the new environment better. It looks a real treat, then. But this is a world filled with so much detail and so many nooks and crannies that getting it clean is not as enjoyable as it should be.
The joy of PowerWash Simulator has always been how laid-back and enjoyable it is. But in the Adventure Time Pack, needing to get into awkward corners, reach under tables and even in between pots and pans in a kitchen, sucks out much of the fun. It all becomes a little bit too time-consuming and grindy, which is something that I’m surprised to say about a game I hold so fondly.

Your mileage may vary, of course. It’s not the first level in PowerWash Simulator 2 that asks you to get into deep nooks and crannies, but here it feels more like hard work than ever. Still, there’s joy to be had in water-blasting familiar locations like the Ice King’s Castle and the Tree House, especially if you’re a fan of Adventure Time. If you’re not familiar with it? Then it’s an easy expansion to skip, unless you’re absolutely desperate for more PowerWash Simulator 2 locations.
It might not be the best that PowerWash Simulator has ever been, then, but for £6.50, five brand new locations feels like a bit of a bargain. And being able to pet BMO is simply the icing on the cake.
