Fable has been delayed again, this time into 2027

With Playground Games at the helm, I’m really looking forward to Fable. The footage shown during Microsoft’s Developer Direct in January looked incredible, which gave me hope that I would actually be playing it this year. But no: today it’s been announced that the title is being delayed again, this time into 2027.
Launching across PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, Fable will now release on an unspecified day in February 2027. The reason for the delay seems to mainly be to give it some room to breathe. Between first-party titles such as Gears of War: E-Day and third-party heavy-hitters such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Grand Theft Auto VI, the release schedule later this year is looking stacked. And so by moving Fable back a few months, chances are it will find more success.
While Matt Booty, the Chief Content Officer at Xbox, states that “the game is in great shape” and “we’re excited about where the game is” in the latest official Xbox podcast, it’s likely that Playground Games will appreciate a few more months development time to add more polish to Fable, too. And more polish means a more enjoyable game for us.
In any case, we’ll be getting a closer look at Fable, as well as some other upcoming games, at the Xbox Games Showcase on 7th June.
