Video store management simulator Rewind 99 exits Steam Early Access next week

Typical. You wait for one video store simulator then two come along at once. Now, Rewind 99, which entered Steam Early Access days before the release of the excellent Retro Rewind, is getting a 1.0 release this August 27th.
Unlike Retro Rewind, which largely plays it straight, Rewind 99 is an unashamedly silly game. Aside from your core video store service you can run an underground fight club, roam a whole open-world city and more. You can even run a film studio and create your own movies, cutting Hollywood out completely.
And, while you can play Rewind 99 solo, you also have the option to get your friends involved, for all sorts of co-op shenanigans. It resembles a cross between Retro Rewind and ‘friendslop’ games such as R.E.P.O. You can watch the game in action below.
“1.0 is giving us a dope opportunity to deliver on where Early Access fell short, namely performance, bugs, and employee behavior,” said Gunmetal Games’ game director Richard Heyne, who may or may not have been wearing a beanie hat and holding a skateboard over his shoulder.
Version 1.0 will, indeed, feature a major performance overhaul. Other additions include smarter employees, a bigger map, lore collectibles, and a host of new features including the option to collect late fees in an excessively violent manner.
Rewind 99 version 1.0 launches on Steam this Thursday August 27th and if you want a taste of what’s on offer you can also download a demo here.
