Even Fallout’s original creator loves the TV show

Amazon’s Fallout TV series has been hugely popular (even if some user reviews claim otherwise), and it’s received praise from all corners of the internet. One very welcome source of praise comes from Timothy Cain, the creator of the original Fallout game back in 1997. In a video review posted to YouTube, Cain says he “likes the show”.

In the 13-minute video, Cain goes into detail about what parts of the show really worked for him, starting by explaining how surreal it was to be sat at home, watching Fallout on his TV. “To see it in real life, realized […] it was surreal watch,” he says.

On talking about the dialogue and story of Fallout, Cain emphasised he liked it “so much”, and it’s because “everything feels like Fallout — and that’s hard to do”. He goes on to say how easy it is to write general apocalyptic content, but to write stuff that fits into the Fallout mold is much more challenging.

Cain also mentions the sheer amount of lore drops included in Amazon’s Fallout TV show — even some he missed himself — and seeing people point out little Easter eggs across the internet has been fun. He does acknowledge, however, that everything is not like the games, “because guess what, this isn’t a game” — but that’s not a problem because the “feel” is right.

You can watch Cain’s full review on YouTube, but the main thing we can take away from his video is that if the original Fallout creator feels its respectful to the series and “feels” like Fallout, that’s more than good enough for us. The people who said it’s disrespectful? They’re officially wrong: Timothy Cain says so.
