Less than a year after its official launch, it’s been announced that support for Warner Bros. Games’ online brawler MultiVersus will end with its fifth season. Additionally, players won’t be able to spend real money on MultiVersus starting from today.

MultiVersus Season 5 starts on 4th February and will run until 30th May. That means until 30th May, players will be able to enjoy the game like they always have, only they won’t be able to purchase Gleamium with real money. After 30th May, however, it will be impossible to play MultiVersus online, or apparently even download the game. Needless to say, players that have unused Gleamium or Character Tokens are advised to use them before 30th May.

Thankfully there’s a lifeline for those who wish to keep playing offline. As long as players have the latest version of the game downloaded and have logged in at some point during Season 5, they should be able to continue playing locally for the foreseeable future.

Warner Bros. Games dropping support for MultiVersus might come as a shock to some. While the game has faced criticism due to its microtransactions, many have enjoyed its zany brawler action, elevated by varied cast of characters from franchises such as Batman, Game of Thrones, Scooby Doo, Beetlejuice and even Friday the 13th. But ultimately, it appears it just hasn’t done well enough for Warner Bros. Games to consider keeping it alive.
