Nintendo is bringing its Game Voucher scheme to an end in 2026

If you’re an avid Switch player, Nintendo’s Game Voucher scheme might have saved you some serious dough over the years. But ‘all good things must come to end’, as they say. Unfortunately, Nintendo has announced that from 30th January 2026, Game Vouchers will no longer be able for purchase.
For those unfamiliar with Nintendo’s Game Voucher scheme, it basically allows Nintendo Switch Online members to buy two Game Vouchers, each redeemable for one of a select number of primarily first-party games. That might not sound all that interesting, but those vouchers can typically be bought for a considerable sum less than the cost of the two games they’re redeemed for. It’s a nifty way of saving some money, then, with titles available including the likes of Super Mario Wonder, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. They can’t be used to redeem Nintendo Switch 2 games, however.
Of course, while it’s bad news that the Game Voucher scheme is ending, it’s good that Nintendo is giving those who use it plenty of warning that Game Vouchers won’t be available after 30th January 2026. Any Game Vouchers purchased will still be valid for one year, too, which means that you’ll be able to redeem games throughout 2026 with them, with new titles periodically being added.
If you make use of the Game Voucher scheme, then, you might want to purchase some more vouchers before they’re no longer available. You can own eight Game Vouchers any any time, which is plenty. With Switch 2 now on the scene, however, the number of games you can redeem with them might dry up over the next year, so bear that in mind.
