The Silent Hill 2 remake Maria actor says she’s not recorded for Born From a Wish DLC

Silent Hill 2, the remake, with Maria sitting behind bars.

It’s been a year since Bloober Team released their Silent Hill 2 remake. So, what better way to celebrate than with the release of Bloober’s take on Born From a Wish, SH2’s Maria DLC. That, at least, was what some fans were hoping for. However, as revealed by Maria/Mary’s voice actor, it’s unlikely to happen.

Speaking on Twitch, as she streamed her playthrough of the Silent Hill 2 remake, Salóme Gunnarsdóttir stated she’d not heard anything about Born From a Wish. “I even asked Bloober if they were going to say something, but we’ve not recorded anything from Born From a Wish. I’m so sorry,” she explained (via Eurogamer).

Granted, she could be telling porkies, or be under NDA, but we’re inclined to believe her. Why? Because, unlike the original Silent Hill 2, we’re not convinced that Born From a Wish would fit Bloober’s Maria. But, be warned, we’re going to get into spoiler territory here.

The original Silent Hill 2’s Born From a Wish scenario had you playing as Maria just waking up in Silent Hill 2, essentially confirming she didn’t exist before James came to town. It was his presence, his desire, that brought her into being.

However, while we’d far from class it as essential, Born From a Wish confirmed that Maria wasn’t aware of her role in James’s punishment. It also confirmed there was kindness in her, as she helped Ernest Baldwin through his own torment. When you replay Silent Hill 2 after Born From a Wish, it makes you a little more sympathetic towards Maria.

However, there’s something off about the remake’s Maria. It’s subtle, but we got the vibe that she was more aware of her role. When she talked about the, Lady of the Light, for example, we felt she was doing that deliberately, that she knew exactly how to push James’s buttons.

If our theory’s correct, Bloober would have to make some big changes to Born From a Wish to make it fit around this new Maria. Plus, to match with the main game’s duration, it would have to be at least twice as long as the original Born From a Wish. The chances are that Bloober’s just moved onto its Silent Hill 1 remake.

It’s rumoured that Silent Hill 2 is coming to Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2, and given that Born From a Wish launched with the Xbox version of SH2, we could be in for a surprise. But as is, it doesn’t seem like Born From a Wish would add much to the Silent Hill 2 remake.
