Fortnite drops its iconic Battle Bus in favour of surfing into combat

After eight long years, Fortnite has dropped its iconic bus which would fly above each island, allowing players to parachute down to the combat zone. Now, instead of arriving as a team, players will surf, solo, onto Fortnite’s new island.

The changeover came yesterday, as part of the Chapter 7 Zero Hour, which also saw a massive multi-property crossover featuring Godzilla, Superman, a Giant Homer Simpson, the K-Pop Demon Hunters and many more. It sounds ridiculous, and it absolutely was.

However, the post-event cutscene saw the Battle Bus getting zapped, which is why players are now reaching the current island via surfboard. Once they get close to the island itself, they can fling themselves into the air, so there are still some parachute shenanigans involved.

We can already imagine parents across the nation panicking that the Fortnite Battle Bus toy they’ve bought for Christmas is now seriously uncool. However, they can breathe easy, since the Battle Bus will be returning.

The Fortnite Battle Bus is, in fact, only out of action until December 4th. We would expect there to be some kind of re-skin though, just to keep things fresh. And, of course, so the merchandising department can put out Battle Bus v2.0.

You can get a glimpse of the Zero Hour event above, but it’s worth hunting down the full thing on YouTube. It’s genuinely amazing, and not just because it looks damn cool. We can’t imagine the amount of legal wrangling that must have gone into getting permission to use these characters.

We don’t know how much say Quentin Tarantino had but if, a few years ago, you’d told us that The Bride from Kill Bill would be battling an off-brand Cthulhu alongside the Power Rangers Megazord, we’d have never believed you.

If you feel like diving into Fortnite, its new Pacific Break Battle Royale map is open to explore. Fortnite is free-to-play on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, iOS and Android.
