Mortal Kombat II is about the hit the cinemas, so Digital Eclipse and Atari perhaps couldn’t have picked a better time to release its latest, and perhaps last, major update for Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. The highlight of the update is undoubtedly the introduction of crossplay to the collection’s online offerings, allowing you to fight against others around the world regardless of format. But there are some other welcome new features as well.

The update also introduces 2-on-2 online Kombat for the first time, allowing for tag-team matches in the arcade and SNES versions of Ultimate MK3, the PlayStation version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy, and the arcade version of Mortal Kombat 4. And in the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch 2 and PC versions of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, there’s now a VRR option which enables the collection to more closely sync with the original arcade frame rates, making for a more authentic experience.

In addition to these new features, the update also fixes a number of bugs, such as one where the minimum connection strength option for rooms was not functioning properly. And so, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection should now be in a better state than ever. And that’s good, considering that it’s the last major update planned for the game. From this point on, Digital Eclipse will continue to identify and fix any issues that crop up, and perhaps make some minor improvements, but that’s it.

You can find more details about the update over on the official Digital Eclipse website. And those who find any issues in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection are encouraged to share them on the studio’s Discord.
