The Simpsons’ creator hints at a possible Hit & Run remaster

Games based on movies and shows are a mixed bag. The Simpsons: Hit & Run, however, stands out as one of the finest, and is certainly the best game based on Fox’s long-running animated series. Now, Matt Groenig, creator of the show, may have let it slip that a remaster is on the way.

Speaking at a Disney D23 panel (spotted by PushSquare), a fan asked Groening whether there was any chance of a sequel to this much-loved game, which is essentially Grand Theft Simpsons. “Since we’re getting a second movie, how about a second Simpsons: Hit & Run?” the fan asked.

Matt Selman, the current showrunner, replied with a non-committal “That would certainly be a treat.” Groenig then pitched in with “I think the original game is coming back in some form.” “Or not,” Selman swiftly adds, suggesting Groening had said a little too much.

You can watch the moment in question below. It wouldn’t be the first time a game has been inadvertently revealed at a convention. The late Kevin Conroy famously revealed the existence of a new Arkham-series game a few years ago, much to WB Games’s displeasure.

I’ve got fond memories of playing The Simpsons: Hit & Run and I’m far from the only one. There’s a serious demand for a sequel or remaster, and some have even attempted to remake it. The game originally launched on Xbox, PlayStation 2 and GameCube but is not currently available on modern platforms. Here’s hoping Groening’s answer was on the money.
