New God of War Announced

ByKim Snaith 14 June 201614 June 2016

After a rather grand start to the Sony E3 conference with a live orchestral number, a video kicks in of a small child, clad in wolfskin clothing and armed with a hunting knife. What is this? A new IP? An older gentleman walks into the shot. He looks familiar… is that.. Kratos?

God of War is coming.

The trailer shows off some gorgeous locations, deep in forests and mountainous backdrops. Oh, and there’s a dragon. Kratos accompanies the child – his son, maybe? – around the forest, teaching and training him as he goes.

This isn’t God of War 4 – the title simply states God of War, so this is more of a reboot than a sequel. Rather than Greek mythology, God of War seems to have a Norse/Spartan theme.

We have no release date for God of War, so we expect to be waiting a while yet, but for now, feast your eyes on the gorgeous screenshots below:

Kim's been into video games since playing Dizzy on her brother's Commodore 64 as a nipper. She'll give just about anything a go, but she's got a particular soft spot for indie adventures, roguelikes and puzzle games. If she's not gaming, she's probably got her nose in a book, and you can find her bookish musings on her blog at What The Book. She's also freelanced in several places, writes about Lego at That Brick Site, and is constantly thinking about new projects she'll undoubtedly quickly abandon.
