Catch a wave with the newly announced Surf World Series

Apparently, unless you count a Spongebob game in 2011, the last video game about surfing released in 2002. So if you are a part of this rather niche crowd – and have become a little bored after 14 years of Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer – get your trunks out for Surf World Series, a newly announced title coming to PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
Arriving sometime in 2017, developer Climax Studios – who developed the various Assassin’s Creed Chronicles games – is bringing five of the world’s most famous surfing shorelines for you and your friends to compete in. Producer at Climax, Jamie Fisher, says: “Surf World Series is easy to get into, but pulling off epic stunts and new school tricks makes it deceptively difficult to master. It takes timing, precision, and most of all, the drive to take on treacherous tubes and monster waves, or dominate the competition online.”
Overall the title has five shorelines – which can be played at day or night – including the Australian Bell’s Beach or Hawaii’s Waimea Bay. There are 45 single-player challenges to partake in as well as three seperate multiplayer modes with up to 16 players. And, of course, you can customise your board too: “With tens of thousands of customisations, in Surf World Series you’ll have the freedom to design your own slick style and stand out from the crowd with your very own signature surfer.”
“The wave system in Surf World Series was custom built to not only create a wave that looks and feels stellar,” Fisher goes on to say, “but also to have the swell behave as naturally as possible. You’ll feel the current pull against your board as you battle to stay balanced, stick the landing on massive aerials and ride out the heaviest waves.”
“Without your toes on the sand, it doesn’t get much closer to the authentic surf experience than this.”
Surf World Series will wash up on shores near you in 2017 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
