FIFA 17 at E3 – Frostbite, The Journey and Gameplay Features

During EA’s press conference at E3 they showed off some new features that will be coming to FIFA in FIFA 17 which releases on September 27th on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
EA sports aren’t holding back with their change to Frosbite for FIFA 17. There’s the story mode: The Journey, coming this year for the first time. This year, EA didn’t give any information on changes to Ultimate Team or Career Mode but they did offer insight into some gameplay changes as well as other small features they can add using Frostbite.
The changes to gameplay given the line of “Own Every Moment” includes a rewrite to Set Pieces, Physical Play Overhaul, an Active Intelligent System, and New Attack Techniques.
The Rewrite to Set Pieces really stretches across all of them; free kick run ups can be customised to create new spin and movement on the ball; A new targeting system for corners will make it easier to pick out your teammates; you can move freely running up to the ball on freekicks. To read all the changes to Set Pieces you can visit here. To look at the other changes outlined you can go in-depth into each here.

The Journey was revealed properly as well and the website shows there will be dialogue options at the end of matches as well as the players who took a role in creating the story; Harry Kane as a story consultant for example, yeah, I don’t know why either.
Frostbite finally allows FIFA to include the real managers on the sidelines. Not only that, but mostly for the use of The Journey, there’s the manager’s office and club locker rooms. Some lovely licensed stadiums appear to be staying as well which is nice. This is all well and good for players in the UK mainly as The Journey is only for the Premier League as are the manager faces, and so far, it appears as are the offices and locker rooms. I’d really like to see some of this move over into the other modes like being able to actually make a manager in Career Mode. I’m worried though as games with yearly releases changing engines rarely pans out well. The switch to Ignite was relatively smooth though PC players missed out on it the year Ignite came to consoles, but I doubt the same thing will happen this time.
