You knew this would be on the list. Final Fantasy fans have eagerly waited for the arrival of Final Fantasy XV since its announcement as Final Fantasy Versus XIII all the way back in 2006. Many questioned whether or not this game would ever release. Some people probably remain skeptical. Aiming to modernise the Final Fantasy series, Square Enix shifted toward an action-based battle system in addition to a greater emphasis on a narrative driven by realistic characters and emotion. Whether fans are genuinely still interested or sticking around out of sheer morbid curiosity, the fact that Final Fantasy XV has a release date feels like a dream. We’ll find out in September if a boys-only road trip is a recipe for an unforgettable adventure.
4. World of Final Fantasy
Developer: Square Enix
Platform(s): PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita
Release Dates: October 25, 2016 (NA), October 27, 2016 (JP), October 28, 2016 (EU)
Certainly the cutest game on this list, World of Final Fantasy is designed with newcomers to the series in mind. It features a completely new story and cast of characters while also incorporating some of the classic Final Fantasy heroes that we have grown to love over the years. The Active Time Battle system also makes a comeback here, providing classic turn-based combat reminiscent of earlier games in the main series. Players will also be able to bring monsters, called Mirages, into battle and utilize a stacking system to provide unique boons to characters. Since there are a wide variety of Mirages to capture and use in battle, many combinations will be possible for players. Making the right combinations in your creature stacks will undoubtedly be the key to success in this adorable upcoming JRPG.
