Update: Or not… It seems there may have been some miscommunication or a mistake from the Metro website as Deep Silver, the game series’ publisher, have stated no new game is coming next year.
In the most fitting of days, a new title in the post-apocalyptic series Metro has been teased for 2017. The game, with a currently unannounced title, was confirmed on the original book series’ website. The final part of the book trilogy, Metro 2035, releases in English later this year.
The website states “The next Metro video game” will release next year, along with the tagline: “It all adds up to something. Where the books end their story, the game will pick it up. An era of great discoveries lies ahead…” The developer of the series, 4A Games, had previously confirmed they were working on two titles. One, a virtual reality, post-apocalyptic shooter exclusive to the Oculus Rift, Artika.1, and something not then announced.
There is little other information on the game. The last title in the series released, Metro: Last Light, released back in 2013 and was praised on release for its atmosphere, setting and graphical quality. Both currently released games were re-released for current generation consoles as Metro: Redux in 2014.
