Upcoming Final Fantasy XV Patches Will Add Story and Improve Chapter 13

If you had somehow missed it, Final Fantasy XV, released the other week and was actually pretty good. Nothing is perfect, however. The game took an infamous ten years to develop, and was then delayed to improve the full experience and nullify the need for any day-one patches.
Of course, Final Fantasy XV ended up releasing with a rather substantially sized day-one patch, totalling 8GB. And now, Square Enix’s latest won’t just be receiving bug-fixes through coming patches, but also more cutscenes and improvements to the rather weak Chapter 13 – amongst other end-game content.
Since release, many – including our own Rich – have been pointing out that one of Final Fantasy XV’s biggest apparent weaknesses is the generally weak story – feeling butchered and missing. Game director, Hajime Tabata, has come out and promised to, over the short-term, “enrich certain aspects of the game” and “adding gameplay enhancements for Chapter 13.”
In the longer term, the team hopes to “delve deeper into the story, adding scenes that will give you new insight into character motivations,” including – spoilers ahead! – “why Ravus walked the path he did.” Tabata does state however that they “will need a little time with these” due to localisation and voicing. Further ahead, Square Enix is looking to add a proper New Game+ mode as well as various tweaks to font-size and special modes – as well as all the expected DLC. Full information on their plans here.
On one hand, it’s nice to see a studio – expecially a large one – actually step up and admit mistakes, while promising to fix them post-launch. But of course on the other, some fans who bought the full game day-one may feel a little angry that Square Enix are coming out and admitting there are in fact large pieces of the story missing.
Have you bought Final Fantasy XV yet? If so, how do you feel about this? If you haven’t, is this revelation going to make you hold out a little longer so you can get a “fuller” experience?
