The Division Movie Acquires Oscar-Winning Director

Remember all those great stories we saw in the world of video games last year? Well, Ubisoft’s The Division gets the pleasure of being turned into a movie – although Firewatch is penned too. It has been announced today that Stephan Gaghan, Oscar-winning director and screenwriter, will direct the flick.

Gaghan won numerous awards for both Syriana and Traffic. More recently, he directed Gold starring Matthew McConaughey and wrote on Call of Duty: Ghosts. Ubisoft have stated numerous times they are attempting to push into the movie-making business with adaptions of their own video-game titles.

The latest was Assassin’s Creed – still in cinemas – starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. That, too, had a rather brilliant director – as well as composer and cinematographer – and still turned out a bit average. Will The Division turn things around in the world of video-game movies? It’s set to star Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain next year sometime.
