Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Announced by Obsidian

Obsidian Entertainment have been teasing the announcement of a new project over the last week on their Twitter account – today, it comes to fruition. Obsidian are looking for $1.1 million to crowdfund Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, a sequel to 2014’s Pillars of Eternity.

The title will be crowdfunded off Fig, rather than Kickstarter, similar to InXile’s Wasteland 3. In accordance with how Fig works, Obsidian are looking for $2.5 million overall – with the rest given through private equity backers. So, nothing us normal folks have to worry about.

Deadfire will continue on directly from where the prequel left off – and will more than likely allow players to carry-over their save from previous playthroughs. Of course, you will encounter new environments and cultures, along with the ability to now travel by both land and sea. NPC’s also now keep to their schedule, similar to many modern AAA RPG’s, allowing for dynamic quests to be unfolded.

You can read the full description of Pillars of Eternity 2 : Deadfire below – but be warned, spoilers ahead if you haven’t completed the original. You can check out the full crowdfunder and pledge by heading over to the Fig page. In the meantime, fans may want to check out the full ‘Making of Pillars of Eternity’ documentary, which just released to all a few days ago.

“Eothas… the god of light and rebirth was thought dead, but he now inhabits the stone titan that sat buried under your keep, Caed Nua, for millennia. Ripping his way out of the ground, he destroys your stronghold and leaves you at the brink of death. To save your soul, you must track down the wayward god and demand answers — answers which could throw mortals and the gods themselves into chaos.”
